An inaugural meeting of the Friends of Burundi was held at the Malvern Christian Centre on Saturday, November 19th. 2005 of those interested in forming Friends of Burundi.  29 people were present.

 Draft Minutes

 

The meeting opened in prayer.

 

The draft AIMS that had been circulated were discussed and amended to the following:-

 

   1.  To support the church in Burundi in its:

a)      witness to Godís love in Christ

b)      charitable work

c)      task of reconciliation.

  1. To provide information for prayer.

  2. To encourage occasional meetings of the Friends of Burundi.

  3. To encourage small group visits to Burundi .

  4. To assist in visits of Burundians to the UK .

  5. To foster friendships with expatriate Burundians.

  6. To support small charitable projects in Burundi .

  7. To engage a new generation of Christians in support of the church in Burundi .

  8. To engage in other activities commensurate with the above aims.

The aims were agreed unanimously by all present.

It was agreed to seek registration with the Charity Commissioners and to ask Andrew Maclay to work on this.  

This was passed with one abstension.

A Committee was elected:          (see photos of the committee)

The Officials

Chairman:  William Challis  Proposed by Hugh James and seconded by Georgette Butera.  Agreed unanimously.

Secretary:  Hugh James   Proposed by Pam Brooks and seconded by William Challis.  Agreed unanimously.

Treasurer:  Keith Anderson  Proposed by Pam Brooks and seconded by Anne Stordy.  Agreed unanimously.

Assistant Secretaries:  Pam Brooks and Sue Finlayson   Proposed by Catherine Lindsay and seconded by Keith Anderson.  Agreed unanimously.

Additional Committee members: 
Pat Brooks, Georgette Butera, Alison Gill and Andrew Maclay

Proposed by Vivien James and seconded by Marguerite Ackroyd.  
Agreed unanimously.

First Trustees to be:  

Keith Anderson, William Challis, Hugh James and Andrew Maclay .  

Proposed by Vivien James and seconded by Anne Stordy. 

Agreed unanimously.

 

A Bank Account should be opened in the name of the Friends of Burundi 
with any two of the following to sign:  Keith Anderson, William Challis, Hugh James and Andrew Maclay .  
Proposed by Ralph Hanger and seconded by Pam Brooks.  Agreed unanimously.  

At the outset the annual subscription shall be £10.

 

To revise the constitution:  25% of the membership must be present and two thirds of those present must be in favour.  Proposed by Hugh James and seconded by Ralph Hanger.  Agreed unanimously.

 

The meeting closed in prayer.
